Google PageRank
PageRank is a link analysis algorithm that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web (WWW), with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).
PageRank was developed at Stanford University by Larry Page (hence the name Page-Rank) and later Sergey Brin as part of a research project about a new kind of search engine. The project started in 1995 and led to a functional prototype, named Google, in 1998. Shortly after, Page and Brin founded Google Inc., the company behind the Google search engine. While just one of many factors which determine the ranking of Google search results, PageRank continues to provide the basis for all of Google’s web search tools.
How to get pagerank for website or blog:
Pagerank 0 – new websites or blogs, websites without any links or only pr0 backlinks, banned sites.
Pagerank 1 – It is not a lot of websites with pagerank 1. Often Google gives Pagerank 2 to websites trying to skip pagerank 1. Even if your site got only one backlink with pr 3-4 and some pr0 backlinks… most likely you will get pr2. Pagerank 1you can meet more often for internal pages or for blogs. Bloggers who never promoted their blogs can get pr1 if they keep their links on their profiles in social sites like Technorati, LifeJournal, MySpace, FaceBook, some other low pr friends blogs.
Pagerank 2 – It can be for well development website which provide very specific information with low chance to get links from similar websites. Website can be online for a while and have hundereds links from other similar pr0-3 sites. If you don’t have a lot of links but some sites with pr3-4 link your resource you can get pagerank 2.
Pagerank 3 – often it stays very close between pagerank 2 and 4. It mean that your site already linked from good sites. If you don’t have a lot of backlinks, but your site linked from only one pr5 or even pr7 site, you can get pr3 with next 1-2 updates. Often serious webmasters never deal with site or blog which got Google pagerank less than 3.
Pagerank 4 – probably the first thing that shows that website is powerful enough. Pagerank 4 can be for a websites who got thousands backlinks from different resources, but for some reasons can’t get a lot of hight pagerank links. To get pagerank 4 you need large ammount of pr links from pr3-4 pages, or some links from pr5+ websites or weblogs.
Pagerank 5 – i often say that Pagerank 5 is the most hard thing to get. You need large ammount of pr5+ backlinks to reach this point. In some cases website can get pagerank 5 with only 1 pagerank 5 link and large ammount of pr3-4 backlinks. But in this case, pagerank 5 link should be from 100% trustful resource with less than 20 other backlinks. Somethimes it takes 2-4 updates to jump from Pagerank 4 to Pagerank 5 and more.
Pagerank 6 – hight point you can reach with your resource. It takes years to build backlinks, get natural backlinks, buy links. Enen some established sites / blogs with millions daily visitors can’t get this pagerank.
Pagerank 7 – last point which you can get by spending money. It is possible to have hundereds or even thousands pr0-5 backlinks and buy some pr6-8 backlinks to get pr7. I know some sites who basicly bought this pagerank and they will loose it if they stop paying for links from hight pagerank sites.
Pagerank 8 – belongs to top sites like Digg, MySpace, WinSCP and more. It mean that website has from thousand to millions backlinks. The only way to get this pagerank is… when your site or blog provide quality content.
Pagerank 9 – only if you are a geek or large company. Mostly it belongs to websites who online for a while and most people visit this sites.
Pagerank 10 – not a lot of websites got pagerank 10. Google gives it to companies and websites who benefit World Wide Web. Apple, MIT, Blogger, StatCounter, W3, Google and some other sites got pagerank 10. If you want to get Pagerank 10, you should come with newest idea which will turn around the world.
Remember this things:
Hight pagerank does not guarantee more visitors to your site or blog.
Highter pagerank you have, more spam in your inbox.
Google can ban website if find that you are trying to get highter pagerank buying links.
Even some pr7+ sites have less than 1 visitors a day.
Pagerank doesn’t play any role in search engine rankings.
If you got only 1 link from pr7+ website, it doesn’t mean that you got better positions.
In some cases link from pr3 site can be more pawefrul than link from pr7 site.
More links on the page, less value to this links.
Pagerank 7 backlink from site which absolutely not related to yours… could worth nothing.
PageRank Values
Although nobody knows the exact Google PageRank values the table below gives a fairly good representation of how many external links, of certain PageRank values, are required to achieve a certain Google PageRank.
For example, if you want to know how many incoming PR4 links that are required to achieve a PR4 for your site, you simply look down the Page rank 4 column, until you come to the PR4 row and the answer is 18.5.
So you need 18.5 PR4 links to achieve a PageRank 4 for your site? Not quite.
This is certainly the case, if all of the incoming links are from PR4 pages with less than 50 external links and the links are on-focus with your content, but the value of the PR4 link is reduced if there are more than 50 links on the page and the page topic is not on focus with your site. As a guideline, however, the table gives a good indication of what you should be aiming at.

Compare PR Values
Moving one step further, we are often asked what a PR4 link is worth, or a PR5 link is worth compared to a PR3 link, for example, so to try and make this easy to understand, we have listed the PR3 equivalents below.
PR2 = 0.2 PR3
PR3 = 1 PR3
PR4 = 5 x PR3
PR5 = 25 x PR3
PR6 = 125 x PR3
PR7 = 625 x PR3
So, as you can see above, a PR6 link is comparative in value, to 125 PR3 links, so it seems fairly obvious that your time is better spent in trying to achieve a few quality links rather than bundles of lesser quality links. We have used the example of PR3 links, there is an assumption in the industry that if a link does not appear on a page of at least PR3, it is not worth having.
